Website of the week

Here we will mention interesting websites to learn Spanish and (specially) English.
Week of Oct.15-18th, 2012:
Basic website (in Spanish) to practise grammar (with 3 levels); it includes links to pronunciation, spelling and vocabulary exercises and a word-of-the-day section.

Week of Oct.22nd-25th:
Website (in Spanish) that will help you exercise your English in many different ways: grammar, vocabulary, listening, reading and even speaking!
Week of Oct.29th-31st:

If you're studying a foreign language, this is the site to go. It has a wide variety of languages to choose from and, for every language, a whole load of resources available: chat, e-pals, grammar,...including specific resources for all 4 skills.

Week of Dec.3rd-5th:
A dictionary for British English, Collins is perfect if you want to check out the phonetic transcription of the words you look for. Besides, it includes a dictionary for 4 more languages: Spanish, German, French and Italian; a thesaurus and more sections including one where you can submit new words.

Week of Dec.10th-13th:
An American English dictionary, it is more than that, since it has videos that explain different concepts (like why we use certain words), a word-of-the-day section and a wide range of vocabulary games.

Week of Dec.17th-20th:
This website has different dictionaries, including medical, legal and idioms from Cambridge dictionaries.

Week of Jan. 8th-10th, 2013:
Website where you can contact other people who are learning English (or Spanish) and practise with them, through e-mail or chat. It also has a small grammar section.

Week of Jan. 14-17th:
Website in Spanish that has a complete grammar section in 3 levels (basic, intermediate and advanced), a short business English section and a chat room.

Week of Jan. 21st-24th:
This site is very complete and only about grammar, which is divided into sections.

Week of Jan. 28th-31st:
Website with a lot of grammar and vocabulary exercises and quizzes, apart from student and teacher message boards and links to a wide variety of interests: arts, business, sports,... and a metric and currency converter.

Week of Feb. 4th-7th:
Site that offers many different links to practise practically all skills: reading, listening, writing and speaking (pronunciation), with a variety of activities.

Week of Feb. 11th-14th:
Ideal website to practise reading, where you can read articles and stories. It also has a section to help you write a CV.

Week of Feb. 18th-21st:
Wonderful website that has plenty of resources to practise listening  and reading. It also has games, quizzes, a section for teachers and a link to their page on Facebook, where you can chat with the editors.

Week of Feb. 25th-28th:
My absolute favorite website to practise listening. Apart from the numerous exercises you find on the home page (divided by levels), it also has a video listening section, where the creator talks about different cultural topics, always keeping it short (about 1 minute). Every activity (in the home page) comes with 2 idioms (on the left) one practical tip (in the center) related to the topic of the exercise and between 1 and 5 exercises to practise the vocabulary in the recording. Apart from this, the creator has also made a few more sections like Daily ESL (to practise reading), EZSlang and phonecasts, another way to practise listening.

Week of March 4th-7th:
Website where you can find all types of quizzes (even bilingual), specially grammar and vocabulary, with different levels. It also has links to podcasts on many different topics, to practise listening.

Week of March 11th-14th:

Website where you can practise grammar (with a complete section), reading (with magazines), test your English (with quizzes), learn about English culture, practise listening and writing through dictations and there are also directions on how to practise English (and make friends) via Second Life and websites like www.epals.com.

Week of March 18th-21st:
One of my favourite pages for practising grammar, with lots of exercises on many different topics.

Week of March 25th-27th:
Interesting page where you have access to  many links that offer grammar lessons, idiom explanation and examples, phrasal verbs, quizzes and a slang section. Apart from that, there is a forum and links to job offers in China, Korea and other countries.
Week of April 8th-11th:
Great website that has a full section for professionals who need English, where they can practise it with podcasts and different exercises to check reading and listening comprehension. Naturally, it also has games and a wide range of activities for general English learners, including a section for kids and even downloadable applications.

Week of April 15th-18th:
Website where teachers can find ideas for webquests (internet projects), reading,  writing, grammar, vocabulary and pronunciation exercises, songs to practise English and many other links to practise the language.

Week of April 22nd-25th:
Website that has many exercises and quizzes to practise grammar, reading, listening and writing skills.

Week of April 29th-May 2nd:
Really complete website belonging to Richard Vaughn, creator of the Vaughan System, where you can listen and watch different programs (throughout the day) to help you improve your listening skills.
Week of May 6th-May 9th:
Great, to-the-point website that will help you improve your phonetics skills. Just click on the exercises and follow the instructions.

Week of May 13th-16th:
Website for beginning English learners. It is dedicated to make it easier for new readers (of all ages) to pronounce the basic sounds of English.

Week of May 20th-23rd:
Webpage that has a wide variety of activities for English learners: grammar & vocabulary exercises, phonetics,... with an emphasis on listening, through songs and videos (even books).

Week of May 27th-30th:
My favourite website for reading and writing. You have MANY different texts from grade 1 (7-8 years old) to grade 12, with questions and answers. In the writing section, you can find exercises for various types of writing (though you need a teacher to correct them).

Week of June 3rd-6th:
Excellent website to practise reading and writing. When you register, you have to take a placement test; depending on your level you'll get easier or more difficult texts. You get points everytime you read texts and answer questions correctly, while improving your level. You can also participate in different writing contests, held frequently.

Week of June 10th-13th:
My second favourite website (after esl-lab.com) to practise listening. It's a series of programs, each about 15-minute long, which are narrated really slow, making it easy to understand. You also have the script in front of you, so you have two ways of doing it: you can test your listening skills by just listening to the recording or you can read and listen, practising reading, listening and pronunciation. The length of the program is ideal: listen to one program every day and, in a few months, you'll see the difference.

Week of Oct. 7th-10th, 2013:
Website where you can find many exercises to practise different skills: vocabulary, grammar, reading and listening. It even has games and dictionaries.

Week of Oct. 14th-17th, 2013:
One of the best online dictionaries, with definitions also from the Collins dictionary and an application for smartphones.

Week of Nov. 11th-14th, 2013:
 British online newspaper.

Week of Nov. 18th-21st, 2013:
American online newspaper.

Week of Nov. 25th-28th, 2013:
Great online resource to practise grammar and, especially, phonetics.
